Paula Deen's Banana Pudding

A friend at work had told me about a banana pudding she had made with Chessman cookies instead of vanilla wafers. When I looked into it, I found out it's a Paula Deen Recipe. Oddly enough, no butter! But we add cream cheese to make up for it. And I made it even a bit naughtier by making extra whipped cream so I could layer it in a trifle bowl.
The kids seemed to like it, and I did too, in spite of the lack of chocolate.
(UPDATE: This banana pudding gets even better after a day. The cookies get all nice and soft, but not soggy; and the flavors really mingle together nicely. AND it's not watery like banana pudding will sometimes get the next day.)
Speaking of kids, my boy child could have eaten this entire piece of salmon by himself I think!
I'm not that great at preparing fish, but salmon was on sale so I wanted to give it a try. I used this recipe also found at food network, and it was pretty easy.
I just feel guilty that I haven't fed this to my son every day of his life...that's how much he liked it!

I checked out that salmon recipe and it sounds like wonderful flavors. I've never made salmon at home before nor am I good at cooking fish. The fact that your son liked this so much is inspiring though.

Gotta love the banana pudding. It is one of our favorite desserts!

Normally I am not a huge banana pudding fan but that looks amazing, and that extra whipped cream you made is making my mouth water.

That Banana Pudding looks simply heavenly! I love the idea of trifling it:)

Did you buy more salmon? Oh how I wish my kids would eat fish. To this day, as adults, neither one of them will even look at anything but canned tuna.

Thanks for sharing, Julie

My grandpa is a banana pudding lover and ever since I made this for him a few years ago this is the only one he ever wants. Now my aunt has to make it for him when I'm not around :-)

Did you know they make chocolate Chessmen cookies? Those would be wonderful in this don't you think?

Love your trifle version. great job!

I just fainted from shock. A Paula Deen recipe with NO BUTTER?!?!? I will have to try it. It would, after all, be a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience. Plus it looks fantastic.

As does that salmon recipe.

The salmon looks excellent! I thought it was chicken at first. And banana pudding - how scrumptious! Love it with the chessmen.

We love banana pudding here and we love Paula Deen! Especially my husband. He is always printing out recipes of Paula's for me to try. I have to admit, she has never let me down.

This is fantasitc. Iusually use the Nilla Wafers and have posted it, but WOW, this is way over the top with the Chessman cookies and cream cheese. I am dying to try this.

Your son knows what's what. We love salmon, too.

Thanks for the banana pudding review. My Dad loves it but the rest of us are on the fence about it. Soggy wafers and watery pudding, ew! :)

In spite of myself, I occasionally make a Paula Dean dessert (one of her brownies is our fave), and this looks like one I should try. Thanks!

I do love me some cream cheese! One thing I like about Paula is her love of butter and other forms of dairy:) I'm off to check into that salmon recipe.

no butter! i'm shocked! although i have my doubts that anything can top the vanilla wafer in a banana pudding, i think these cookies would be worth a try. and you're darn right that it's better the next day, and even better the next...if you can keep any around!
